Transformers: Robots in Disguise (IDW) - I have never really been a rabid fan of Transformers in any medium, to be honest, but the new Dawn of the Autobots storyline has me intrigued. I really enjoyed the Windblade 4-issue series (which will become a part of my permanent trade paperback collection), and IDW is using this new story as a point at which new readers can get into the series, a tactic that has apparently worked, at least in my case.
Bee & Puppycat (Boom!) - Like Image Comics, Boom! Studios has been publishing stellar titles as of late, but what initially caught me about Bee & Puppycat was the name. I had no idea that it was a Kickstarter success story until after I started researching it for this post, and that actually makes me like it that much more.
God Hates Astronauts (Image) - I adore farce in a way that is probably unhealthy, and God Hates Astronauts is practically the king of farce. It's one of those things that you can't really explain; you just have to experience it, and I am ready and willing.
Future's End (DC) - I'm lumping all of the singular titles - Batgirl, Batwoman, Birds of Prey, Constantine, Justice League Dark, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman - into this entry here because, well, it's easier. Basically, I really want to see what DC does with these characters separately from the New 52 story arc (one that I haven't necessarily liked too much - or disliked strongly - but hey, it's DC).
Storm (Marvel) - The first issue sat around the comic shop for a while before my curiosity got the better of me. While most of the X-Men titles have only been "meh" for me, I liked the idea that Ororo was finally getting her own title, and she looked fucking awesome. I always liked her mohawk style, and quite frankly, she looks badass. And now I want to read more.
Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman (DC) - I have Wonder Woman tattooed on my side (although she needs some touch-ups because she looks like she's suffering from a bad Botox session right now), and she's been a major fictional character inspiration for me throughout my life. Hell, I've even read most of the comics that involve her, even her early incarnations. This issue deals with Diana Prince losing her powers, one of those fiction tropes that I don't think I'll ever tire of.
The Multiversity (DC) - Grant Morrison is probably one of my favorite comic writers (because duh), and I am interested in what he'll do with Earth-20. Plus, it's a way to escape from the all-too familiar superheroes that DC parades around all the time (ugh, Supes, I want to like you but just can't).
The Names (Vertigo) - You know, I'm starting to prefer limited-run series, since I don't have to worry about jumping into a story that I may or may not be able to appreciate without previous knowledge. Plus, you don't need to do reboots and reinventions to keep relevant. Ahem, anyway. This thriller series is, as described by Vertigo, "The Wolf of Wall Street meets Kill Bill." Color me excited.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 (Dark Horse) - I had been hesitant to pick up with this series after reading Season 8 (magic flying through mountains sexytimes!!), but I broke down and read the last couple of issues of Season 10. I figured I'd give it a chance, considering I watched the entire show through its dissatisfying end.
The Wicked + The Divine (Image) - So this series is definitely going to be one that I'm going to collect in volumes. The concept is strong (Gods! They're just like us! In that they die.), the art is gorgeous, and the writing is phenomenal. Can't wait for #4.
Deadpool Bi-Annual (Marvel) - Okay, so Deadpool is hired to protect a water park against the all-animal activist group Brute Force. That's all you need to know.
